Fault Lines

Fault Lines documents the ongoing housing crisis affecting communities across Ireland, where homes built with defective concrete blocks containing excessive amounts of mica have become physical and emotional fault lines within people's lives.

I became aware of the crisis while back in Ireland during the COVID-19 pandemic. As I travelled through affected communities, I was struck not only by the visible damage to houses, but by the impact it was having on the people who called them home. I felt a responsibility to document what was unfolding around me.

The project brings together photographs of damaged homes, fractured walls, protest, exposed materials and the families living through the consequences. The cracks that appear throughout the series become more than signs of structural failure - they represent the emotional and financial strain placed upon communities whose lives have been disrupted through circumstances beyond their control.

For many, the uncertainty extends beyond the visible damage. Countless homes remain affected, with families continuing to wait for answers, support and the reassurance that their homes can once again provide the safety they were built to offer.

Fault Lines is a record of resilience as much as it is of loss. It reflects the strength of communities facing an ongoing crisis together, preserving the stories of those whose lives have been fundamentally changed while reminding us that a home is far more than the walls that surround us.
